Information Technology is no doubt the most sought career field in India. Software engineers are the stars in the current market owing to the salaries they get. As a web developer or software engineer, you are often the person who can actually turn ideas and projects into reality for a company. Therefore, recruiters look for someone who has solid technical skills in programming and coding, and most importantly, who has an ability to solve problems. Persistence, patience and creativity are main qualities that a techie must seek. The purpose of the technical interview is ostensibly to evaluate your level of knowledge or skill in the topic areas relevant to the position for which you’re being considered.
Here are some tips which might help you easily get through the Technical Interview:
- Firstly, Profile (Resume/ CV) is the most important key to success in Interviews. Many interviewees do not give much attention to their profile. Most of them consider Profile as just a formality that needs to be completed without much effort. If you prepare a good profile then your half job is already done.
- You must know about the technologies, applications, operating systems, etc, especially those related to the post you are applying for.
- You should be poised and personable as this quality is must which recruiters test by building up pressure on you.
- For a technical interview, hands-on training is the weapon which can make you survive half way through. The project which you have worked upon should be live, i.e. it should be working over the internet.
- You must be aware of the languages you have used in project thoroughly. It’s not enough to know only a portion of the language that you have used in your project. You should be clear about each and every aspect of the language.
- Some companies conduct a practical test during technical interviews, you should be clear about the task given to you during the interview and you should complete it in the given time period.
- If you have experience, think of projects that were particularly interesting or innovative and that show your potential and abilities.
- You should be well prepared and should be very clear about the concepts of technical field. You should be able to present your knowledge in a very innovative manner, either you’ve had it from hands-on training or you only know the factoids you have read in books or learnt in classroom.
- One must prepare the technical subjects in a smart way. At the time of Interview it is always a better idea to prepare selectively. Prepare on only those topics that you think are relevant to the post that you are applying for.
- During the question answer round in technical interview, if you don't know the exact answer, say this frankly to the interviewer. Do not give wrong or inappropriate answers.
- Don't be afraid of saying what you are interested in. Show your passion, as this makes you different from other potential candidates.
- You should be able to present the pride you’ll take in your work, your leadership qualities and your technical skills.
However, not only stupendous technical skills will help you convince the interviewer. Depending on the company, the recruiter will prefer someone who likes to create new things and has tons of ideas to someone who just knows his algorithms. One more thing search about the company and the job position you're applying for, so you know what they want.
